For example, Merzbow releases hell of a lot of albums in one year and for me they're quite easy to like because the man has so much talent. Actually, three of my favourite albums by him ("1930", "Aqua Necromancer" and "Tauromachine") were released in the same year, 1998. Granted, he's a noise musician, and it seems noisicians are capable of releasing a whole bunch of stuff in a short amount of time (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Here's an example from the album "Tauromachine": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nqw_mx8Cfvs

Oh, for fuck sake, what a joke. I could make three albums of that by tomorrow afternoon. Anyone here could. We're meant to be talking about music here.

Oh please do, Merzbow hasn't been releasing anything similar lately and I miss his late 90's era (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) But seriously though, it's such mesmerizing and complex music once you get into it. I'd like to learn to make it but I don't even know what kind of equipment is needed (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

I think its cool you listen to noise artists. I find them quite inspirational and can often take you away from reality for a few minutes or so. One time I was listening to it I felt like I was locked inside a cube floating around space. When stuff does that to you, you know it must be interesting in some way (or you just have medical issues)

And this is the equipment you need....

As much as I'm looking forward to the new album already... Isn't it somewhat early to go back into the studio?
How about some more touring? *cough* EUROPE *cough* (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

+ a hundred pedals I suppose (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) I'm a total newbie at creating music and thus far I've only been messing with some software I downloaded to see if I like it. I'll see whether I'll continue or end up dropping that hobby and doing something else instead.

I am very much a fan of noise music though. Recently I've been into noise pop again, but I'm also into shoegaze, some noise rock, rhythmic noise, ambient noise and just plain noise (preferably japanoise, not power electronics) Merzbow is propably my favourite from the plain noise genre but Government Alpha and Guilty Connector are also up there. I highly recommend "Sporadic Spectra" by Government Alpha! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I suppose that's your synthesizer? Tried to do your own noise experimentations yet? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

EDIT: I knew I forgot something after I typed all that.

I wonder if they are going to tour with the new material right after they get off of break. (It doesn't seem like much of a break) I just hope you guys take all the time that is necessary and get well rested.

Noise music is awesome if done well. I liked that video you linked to. It's like abstract art - to someone who doesn't get it, it seems like anyone could do it, just like someone who doesn't like piano music could write any sequence of notes on a piano and call it a piece of music with little difficulty and call it a piece of piano music, and you couldn't argue with that, but it wouldn't be enjoyed by anyone. Likewise, there is a lot of crap noise music, and a lot of fantastic noise music, if you are into that kind of thing.

There are four elements to music - rythm, melody, texture and structure. Some music is mostly melodic (like a lot of very old classical music and some modern pop music), some is mostly rythmic (like hip hop, or more rythm based neo-classical music such as steve reich) and some is more texture based (like noise music, ambient music and industrial music). Different people are affected more by different elements, and music which doesn't have much in the way of melody or rythm (like noise music) to some would seem to not be music because they aren't keyed into texture. Likewise, a lot of people say that rap is not music (because of the lack of melody).

Melody lovers... if you look at a lot of the music you listen to - odds are some of it is very simplistic with the rythm and it may not pay very much concern to texture at all.

It's all about where your preference lies. If it moves someone, it is music. Simple as.

And hell, there may be more than four elements, but those are the four that move me. Hurt, as a matter of fact, always pays attention to all of them to some degree, which is the reason people with such diverse tastes otherwise can all agree on them. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

And cheers J for the post. It's good to hear that you are working on new stuff. Don't rush it for our sake. We can all wait. Make something you love, because knowing you guys, you'll be playing those songs endlessly on the road.

I'd really love it if the HURT guys could keep us music freaks in mind when recording the new material. to make the multi-tracks (Aka all the parts of the song) available to us perhaps for some fan made remixes (like a lot of bands do) could be of great benefit to the bands rep. I realize HURT isn't a great electronic band but I think the release of essentials to us hardcore fans it would be pretty intense to see some well worked remixes floating around. I always see volume I and think 'god I'd love to have a hand at some of those sounds' (the ones they had incorporated).

That's well put, .frame. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Lol, how about HURT releasing the album in the style of Josh Freese? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) At least Stripmall Architecture and Collide have done the same thing. I always found the concept really hilarious. I'm sure HURT would make hell of a lot of money if they offered deluxe packages like "a signed CD + a night with the band in a wet t-shirt contest" or "a signed CD + an album of choice + a personal massage from J. Loren".

I agree with Clownboy. Mutitrack files would make me (and a lot of other people) very happy, and I know loads of people who never liked Nine Inch Nails before who remixed their songs just because the files were available and now are big fans of the band. I think it would work the same way for Hurt (albeit on a smaller scale).

Of course, if Hurt doesn't want to do that, we should respect their wishes, but I really don't see that any harm could come from it. Perhaps they could put the multitrack files online with a code system (like they did with GTTM) and that would serve as extra encouragement to buy the album. It would be one of those things they wouldn't even have to hype at all really, because word would spread among internet music geeks that "some band called hurt have made all the multitrack files for their new album available for when you buy it, I might pick up a copy and see what it's like".

And jesus... I've been neglecting Volume 1. I forgot how good this album is. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
